I guess it was time for me to post this since I tried to force it in Brooks topic about tying braid to backing. Jeez!

Anyway, I like to use about a 4 ft. fluorocarbon leader to my braided line for soft plastics, jigs and maybe drop shot. I use Pline CFX

20lb for my 30lb braid and 15lb for my 20lb braid.

Here is the knot I use to connect them.

I have learned to add a drop of super glue as well. Although not mandatory, I do it when possible.

Re: Tying Fluorocarbon Leader to Braid

I've started using the J knot for my flouro to braid knot, but it's still hard for me to tie quickly. I use a drop of super glue, but last time at Falcon that rig broke the insert out of the tip top on my rod. Crying That's the first time that's happened to me. I replaced it with an alconite titanium tip, we'll see if that works better.

Those Falcon bass sure do love the ole monsters!

Re: Tying Fluorocarbon Leader to Braid

This was the setup I was using at Falcon. On my worm rig, I had 50lb PowerPro with a 20lb fluorocarbon leader. I was using the J knot without any glue. I have stopped using it since it was more hassle and didn't seem to provide any more structure to a well tied knot.

That 6.9lb girl had me wrapped up around some tree branches and I had to work her out. The fluorocarbon leader and J knot held. The leader was shredded a bit from all the sawing that was going on but...it held!

The complete setup was 50lb high-vis yellow braid with Pline leader, 1/2oz tungsten weight, a pegged glass bead (so the weight will click on it) and a 5/0 EWG hook. Oh yeah, and a watermelon red 'Ol monster worm.

Hey RR, have you ever had

Hey RR, have you ever had this knot slip when not using the glue? I've yet to have it happen...even after a 26" Baffin red. I love this knot...it can take some abuse too!

It hasn't slipped but

It hasn't slipped but eventually it will break. I've learned (the hard way) to retie about every other trip.

Hooks on the other hand, retie and retie often when tied to fluorocarbon!

I use the 20lb with my 30lb braid, in fresh and salt water. I also use the P line and have always had pretty good luck with it.
